Homemade Naan

homemade naan

Naan, the iconic Indian flatbread and beloved staple in Indian cuisine. It can elevate any meal with its fluffy texture and delightful flavour. Making homemade naan is easier than you might think and the results are incredibly satisfying.

I recommend serving these with some Indian curry, like Butter Chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala!

Total Time 1 hour 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp suger
  • 120 g warm water (not boiling!! Just a little warm)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 5 dl all purpose flour
  • 1 dl plain yogurt
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • olive oil

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine suger, warm water and yeast well. Let the yeast activate and become foamy. Takes about 5 min.
1 tsp suger, 120 g warm water, 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • In a big bowl. combine flour, yoghurt, salt and olive oil. Add the yeast mixture and knead into a smooth dough. Takes about 10 min.
5 dl all purpose flour, 1 dl plain yogurt, 0.5 tsp salt, 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place. I placed the bowl near our oven since our house is cold. The dough should dubble in size, for me it took about 1 hour.
  • Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll them into balls and on a lightly floured surface, flatten them out using a rolling pin.
  • Heat a pan over medium high heat and grease the pan with some olive oil.
  • Place the dough on the pan. When it puffs up and brown spots appear, flip it and cook the other side. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • Enjoy your homemade naan with some curry.
